nPower PEG: Personal Kinetic Energy Charger

Have you ever been on a hike and had your cell phone or iPod run out of batteries? What if you could take all the kinetic energy you produced exercising and use it to sustainably charge your device?  Well, that's exactly what the nPower Peg does.

I recently discovered this device, but it is close to my heart for a couple of reasons. First, because the innovative company that developed the device is based right here in Cleveland, Ohio!  And second, I love sustainability!  Tremont Electric has been working hard for years to perfect, market, and distribute this device, and now the time has finally arrived!  The company, founded by Aaron LeMieux, strives to provide alternative energy solutions to customers.  And now you can purchase the nPower Peg, personal kinetic energy charger.

You can purchase the product at REI for $199, and you can learn more about it here

The Sarah Palin Candle Project

So, again from Fab (love that website!), I have found some share-able awesomeness, which is semi-relevant because it's an election year.  Election years are extra fun for me, because living in a swing state is awesome. It's pretty much the only time when Ohio gets so much attention.  But, what I loved on Fab is this amazing Sarah Palin candle.  From my perspective, I kinda just want to watch her melt away while I cackle, but maybe someone else might burn this in her honor because she's such a well-informed and visionary political figure. Who knows?  To each his own.  Regardless of why you would want to burn this candle, I think it would be a great, if temporary, conversation piece.  From the Sarah Palin Candle Project website:

"Give the Republican in your family a piece of art to proudly
display on the bookshelf in their corner office at the fortune 500 company, or give the
Democrat in your family a hilarious gag to be used as an
icebreaker at the next anti-fracking-vegan-book-club meeting. "

The inspirational candle stands 10 inches tall, and the mold was hand-sculpted by two artists from Brooklyn. US shipping is included in the $55 price.

Chocolate Human Skulls

So, I found this featured on Fab over the weekend, and if they we're so expensive, they would be my Christmas gift to everyone this year.  These skulls from Cannibal Confections are cast from a mold of a real human skull, and they looks awesomely realistic.

They come in dark, milk, and white chocolate, and are $375.00 right now to order on the website.  They were cheaper on Fab this weekend, but still a little out of my price range for a food item.

DIY Dexter Blood Spatter Nails

Awesome for Halloween or to celebrate the Dexter season premier that aired last night on Showtime, these DIY blood spatter nails are on my list as my next nail art project.  All you need is a straw, some red and white nail polish, and tape (only if you don't want red polish blown all over your fingers).  Check out the full tutorial at Refinery29.

So here's how mine actually turned out when I did them:

Honestly, when I first saw the tutorial, I wasn't 100% positive about doing it to my own nails, but now that I have, every time I look at my nails I get a Halloween boner.  The tutorial worked perfectly, too.  I used a slightly thinner straw (almost a coffee stirrer), and I think it made more detailed splatters.  I used the tape, and I'm glad I did.  The tape didn't take nearly as long as I initially feared, and it definitely helped with some of the mess that would have been on my fingers.  The tape didn't stop all the nail polish from getting on my skin, but a qtip dipped in polish remover got rid of it easily.  Overall, I love it.

DIY Meat Head

Since Halloween is coming, I want to share this insanely awesome to the max DIY meat head.  It's perfect because it's edible, it's disgusting looking, and it probably attracts flies.  I am literally making one for myself as I type this, because I love it so much. You can make your own if you can handle all the awesomeness radiating from the meat when you're done.  It might be too hot to handle.  You're going to need a human skull, pickled onions, Jell-O, olives, toothpicks, and plastic wrap.  If you're having trouble finding a human skull, then you're a pussy, but you can use a plastic skull, if you must...I recommend The Skeleton Store in Skokie, IL for all of your human skeletal needs.  Check out step-by-step Meat Head instructions at Make Projects.

Boo Straws

Halloween is absolutely my favorite holiday.  I get to be as creepy as I want to be and it's appropriate to decorate my house with dead things and blood.  Does that sound weird?  Regardless, I'm thinking Halloween, and I'm thinking party.  And of course no party is complete without fancy straws, right?  Well, I came across these scaaary straws at NeatoShop, and I pretty much have to have them.

Handstand Phone Stand

I have to say, Fred & Friends has some really awesome stuff.  Case and point, the new handstand phone stand.  With two little suction cups, this little pixelated pointer with stick to almost any smooth surface, keeping your phone upright and strangers thinking that you're pretty awesome.  You can get one all for your very own over at NeatoShop.

Je Voudrais Manger Quelque Chose

So, I don't need this tee-shirt that's being featured on uncovet this week, but "je voudrais manger quelque chose" means "I would like to eat something" in English, and I kinda want it because shirts that say things in other languages, especially French, are super cool.  Plus, pretty much all the time, I want to eat something, so I feel this phrase pretty accurately describes my general wants at any given time.  As if that's not enough, I also majored in French once upon a time, so I can understand at least one word on this tee.  You can get it on Uncovet or, if the sale or featuring situation is over, check it out on Urban Cricket.
